Optimize catalytic active reaction sites as a function • of carbon support, surface oxygen groups, nitrogen content, surface modifiers, pyrolysis temperature, porosity, and the concentration of the non-metallic additive “X” in the catalyst matrix. Evaluate catalyst stability under ...
متن کاملNovel Non-Precious metals for PEMFC
A major impediment to the commercialization of fuel cell technology is the low activity of platinum electrocatalyst used for oxygen reduction. Pt has been alloyed with transition metals like Ni, Co etc, which show higher activity, compared to pure Pt. However, Pt remains, an expensive metal of low abundance, and hence, finding a non-noble-metal alternative is of interest. The overall objective ...
متن کاملCarbon nanocages: A new support material for Pt catalyst with remarkably high durability
Low durability is the major challenge hindering the large-scale implementation of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) technology, and corrosion of carbon support materials of current catalysts is the main cause. Here, we describe the finding of remarkably high durability with the use of a novel support material. This material is based on hollow carbon nanocages developed with a high degr...
متن کاملThermal management issues in a PEMFC stack – A brief review of current status
Understanding the thermal effects is critical in optimizing the performance and durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). A PEMFC produces a similar amount of waste heat to its electric power output and tolerates only a small deviation in temperature from its design point. The balance between the heat production and its removal determines the operating temperature of a PEMFC. ...

The design of a non-precious metal oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst of high activity and long durability in acidic electrolyte is of great importance for the development and commercialization of low-temperature fuel cells, which remains a great challenge to date. Here, we demonstrate a facile, scalable protocol for the controlled synthesis of CoxC encapsulated in carbon nanotubes as a n...
